The Total Filmmaker by Jerry Lewis

Jerry Lewis's book, The Total Filmmaker, is available online. It's been out of print for years.

Jerry never graduated from high school. He was terribly hurt when he was held back a year in grade school. It was a great triumph for him when he became a professor at USC. His work was taken seriously by the French. The mix of intellectual and artistic achievement with deep seated feelings of inferiority probably led to the immodest title of this book which was a collection of lectures he gave in his class.

In John Baxter's biography of George Lucas, it was noted that Lewis's class was popular because it was hinted that he would get his students jobs in Hollywood. He would have friends from Hollywood sit in on his classes.

I read a little of the book years ago. They had a copy in the University library here. I don't think I got past the prologue.
