If you think the story on Wikipedia was awful, you should read the real thing. Also, the story on Wikipedia contains quite a few inaccuracies. Most people who saw the movie as kids seemed to like it.

I saw it with my school when I was in the 6th grade. I remember being surprised that you could show Indians being killed in a G-rated movie or than anyone would want to. I liked movie violence, but I rooted for the Indians. Personally, the thing that struck me about it was John's character arc. IIRC, he started out being irresponsible and rebellious and ended up getting everything on his shoulders.

I don't know if the movie managed to cover that or not, but I honestly thought it was the main thrust of the story, and a pretty interesting one at that (probably because I was close to that age.)

Not sure the movie deserved this much of a slam. This WAS the 70's, after all, and at least it was attempting to hit history in SOME way, which is more than I can say for anything G-rated these days. All you get now are feel-good cartoons.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5066697550940342756.post-32864228799514410562014-10-25T09:40:45.290-07:002014-10-25T09:40:45.290-07:00"Where the Red Fern Grows" and "Sev..."Where the Red Fern Grows" and "Seven Alone" were from the same producers and starred the same kid.
